Plant containers

I’ve been toying with hypertufa and concrete planters. I’ve even been thinking about making them to sell.

Hypertufa is a cement mix with either perlite or peat moss instead of larger pieces of gravel. So just sand, cement and peat moss and/or perlite. It’s lighter in weight and has a very porous texture. It’s typically used for alpine plants, dwarf conifers and succulents. It breathes more than other pots do. I like  the color it comes out as.  The only down side I see is they can not be allowed to freeze. Being so porous they will crack if they are too wet when it freezes. But they are easier to move around than concrete.

I like the concrete ones just cause they look more like a limestone. I read up on pre-cast cement and been trying to get a good texture out of it. I need to try making more, even adding in colors and who knows what else. We will see.

I’ve made more, just need to get good photo’s. I kind of like the rougher edges on the top but I do want to make smooth. These were mainly for mix design purposes. I want to come up with better molds as well.
